Program of change

Happy Valley is hosting the state newspaper conference this weekend, so we have a lot of close readers in town.

Our program is one of change, because our business is changing rapidly. It's amazing how it's happening, really, and it's shown clearly in our incredible readership numbers.

Print is relatively stable, while online readership tops a half million (as measured in unique visitors monthly) and it hit a record 684,000 in April.

Rapid change, but readership is growing for the news we present.

I'll be at the conference all weekend and it'll be my final activities as president of the Pennsylvania Society of Newspaper Editors. Should be fun, and it'll be nice watching our staffers walk off with 24 state writing, photo, design and online awards.
