Congress pushes again in Weisfeiler case

WeisfeilerMembers of Congress have re-upped their request for diligence in the case of Boris Weisfeiler, the missing Penn State professor. He disappeared in Chile more than 20 years ago.

In a letter sent late last week, 27 U.S. senators and representatives again implored Chilean President Michele Bachelet to bring "new focus" to the investigation into Weisfeiler's disappearance.

A Congressional letter sent to Bachelet earlier in the month included the signatures of 14 senators and representatives.

Weisfeiler went missing in 1985 in a rural area. When U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met with the newly inaugurated Bachelet on March 11, the duo discussed the mystery.

Update @ 2:53 p.m.: Weisfeiler's sister and niece delivered -- in person -- the latest Congressional letter today. Worth noting: It was penned by U.S. Rep. John Peterson, R-Pleasantville. And there's some indication that the Chilean press may be doing something with the story tomorrow.

Note to readers:
This post earlier contained an excerpt from an e-mail message written by a former adviser of Weisfeiler's. The excerpt has been removed because a Weisfeiler relative said that its contents were not entirely accurate.
